Music is the most abstract of the arts. It rides an unfiltered highway straight to the center of our emotional selves; no language to process, no visual representation to decipher. For this reason music can be more impactful than any other creative art.
This piece really evolved in the process of making it. I started with the sketch of the violinist but I had planned a more rendered background. I wanted to capture the frenetic energy I sense in Shostakovich or Bartok's string quartet work. Out came the palette knives, on went the crazy colors, sand paper, scratching off paint, then adding more layers. Finally the dragonflies arrived.
Acrylic on wood panel. 16x16 inches. "Melody" is showing at Dorothy Circus Gallery in February 2012.
whoa. this is fantastic! your explosion of colors feels wonderful! i especially am fond of the contrast between the stylized cartoony dragonflies and the rest of the rendered non outlined piece. i like to think he might be serenading this character of mine [link] maybe? ;D
i like all your pictures - this one show harmony, dynamic, music (inside go to outside) in a good composition. it is great, naive and intelligent. good luck to you
